Founded in 1826, Fortaleza is the capital of the state of Ceará. It's a modern city with beautiful beaches and a thousand of enchantments, providing moments of rare emotions to all visitors. A place rich in famous artisans. Fortaleza is the starting point for you to enjoy the sun.

  Attractions
 Jericoacoara

The most beautiful beach in Ceará is also one of the most ten beautiful beaches in the world. The title, given by the The New York Times, gives a sample of what the tourist will find in Jericoacoara. Dunes that move from place to place, mangroves, areas filled with coconut palms and the beautiful sea with warm and quiet water gives to "Jeri," as it is called by the locals, an air of earthy paradise. Jericoacoara is also an environmental area protected by law.

Dragão do Mar Center of Art and Culture

One of the most modern art and entertainment center in Brazil, The Dragão do Mar Center of Art and Culture is also a beautiful example of modern arquitecture. It is located in the heart of Iracema's beach. The Dragão do Mar offers 30 thousand square meters of pure fun and entertainment for all tastes. There are museums, movie theatres, areas for shows and even a planetarium. At the center there are also bars, restaurants and nightclubs, all of them on restored old mansions.

 Morro Branco (White mountain)

The unique and picturesque coastline of Morro Branco lie roughly 80 km (50 miles) from Fortaleza on the spectacular Ceará coast. Morro Branco is known for its colorful sand cliffs, which range from white to pink and reddish to beige. Pass over the dunes and explore a natural labyrinth with fresh water springs at Praia das Fontes ("Beach of the Springs") or take a jangada (a small wooden sailboat) ride to some nearby caves. Here, handicrafts made of sand are plentiful, as they are a local specialty. In Iguape, you can find good buys from the skilled lacemakers who peddle their intricate embroideries.

 Canoa Quebrada

The immense pink dunes of Canoa Quebrada overlook broad beaches not far from Aracati on Ceará's shimmering Atlantic coast. Although small, the village has plenty of lively restaurants, bars as well as nightclubs where patrons dance in the rhythm of the forró. In the 1970s, Canoa Quebrada was discovered by Brazilian and international nomads looking for a more laid-back lifestyle. The town has developed somewhat since then, but it's still a magical event to watch the sun set over the dunes, which resemble a lunar landscape.

 Our Lady of Assumption Fort

Initially called 'Schoonenborch", the fort was built by the Dutchman Matias Beck in 1549. Under the possession of the Portuguese in 1654, the fort came to be named "Our Lady of Assumption Fort". It underwent reforms projected by the architect Silva Paulet from São Paulo, being rebuilt in masonry in 1817, the year of the Ecuador Confederation. Currently it is the headquarters of the Tenth Military Region. The city of Fortaleza was named after the construction of this fort.

 Iracema Beach

At night every way leads to Iracema's Beach. At this area, where the old storehouses were adapted for use as dancing and cultural spoaces, you can find the biggest number and variety of Bars and Restaurants in town. Don't miss the Pirata Bar, which is crowded even on Mondays!

 Beach Park

Beach Park in Fortaleza is one of the largest (and best) waterparks in the world.

 Theatro José de Alencar

The Jose de Alencar Theater was inaugurated in 1910, on June 17th, with the symphonic band of the Battalion of Security, conducted by the teachers Luigi, Maria Smido and Enrique Jorge. In the square, fire wheels, mortars and rockets in a true
pyrothecnic miracle, brights the party.
